Mighty Networks vs Skool: price, fees and what moving a community involves

Last materially reviewed 2026-10-03

Quick answerSkool is cheaper to start ($9 or $99 a month) and simpler. Mighty Networks starts at $79 a month on annual billing and gives an established group more structure and a lower fee than Skool Hobby.

Skool costs less to start, Mighty Networks gives a larger group more room

Skool is the cheaper and simpler of the two, and Mighty Networks is the more structured one. Skool sells two plans, Hobby at $9 a month and Pro at $99 a month, each with unlimited members, courses, videos and live calls. Mighty Networks starts with the Launch Plan at $79 a month on annual billing, shown as $950 a year on its pricing page, or $95 when paid month to month according to its help center. All prices are as read on 3 October 2026 and can change.

The fee line changes the math. Skool Hobby keeps 10% plus 30 cents of every member payment. Skool Pro keeps 2.9% plus 30 cents, rising to 3.9% on charges above $900, and Skool processes the payment itself. Mighty's Launch Plan lists a 2% transaction fee. For a group that already collects dues, Hobby gets expensive quickly, so the fair comparison is Launch against Pro. The full Mighty Networks plan breakdown covers the higher tiers.

What Skool does that Mighty Networks does not, and the reverse

Skool only: Skool is the merchant of record. Its payments FAQ says it collects and remits EU VAT and sales tax itself, pays out every Wednesday and bills every membership in US dollars. You cannot connect your own existing Stripe account. That removes tax paperwork, and it also means the billing relationship with your members sits inside Skool.

Mighty Networks only: a community on Mighty is built from separate Spaces, each with its own feed, chat, events or course, and each can be private or sold on its own. The Launch Plan lists unlimited Spaces, 20 livestream hours a month for up to 100 viewers, member tags and five custom profile fields. Mighty also lists charging in many currencies, where Skool charges in USD only. For a club with chapters, committees or paid tiers that need walls between them, that structure is the reason to pay more. For one room and one course library, it is overhead.

Who should pick Skool and who should pick Mighty Networks

  • Pick Skool if you run one group around one teacher or topic, want leaderboards and a classroom in a fixed layout, and prefer that the platform handles tax.
  • Pick Mighty Networks if your existing community has subgroups, several organizers and regular live events, or if you want to charge in a currency other than US dollars.
  • Pick neither yet if the group is small and free and nobody is asking to leave its current home. The case for not moving is worth reading first.

Moving members between Skool and Mighty Networks

Both vendors document a CSV route, and neither moves posts for you on a self-serve plan.

  1. Skool to Mighty: Skool's help center describes an Export button on the Members tab, which also carries members' answers to membership questions. On Mighty's Launch Plan or higher you upload a CSV with email addresses, and first and last names if you have them. Invitations go out in batches of 50 and one file can hold up to 100,000 records.
  2. Mighty to Skool: Mighty lets hosts on Launch or higher download the member list as an Excel file from Admin, Members, Member List. Skool's Invite tab has an Import button for bulk CSV invites. Imported people get access without paying or requesting to join, but each must click the Join Now button in the email. Skool suggests an external CRM for large lists.
  3. Paid members: because Skool processes payments on its own merchant account, plan for members to enter card details again on the new platform. Mighty's migration team, available from the Growth Plan ($354 a month on annual billing), says it can map subscriptions and create member profiles so people only set a new password.

Before either move, list what must come across with a community inventory and price the work with the transition cost guide.
