What is Mighty Networks? What it does and what it is used for

Last materially reviewed 2026-10-03

Quick answerMighty Networks is paid software for running your own private community with courses, events, chat and paid memberships on the web and in iOS and Android apps. Standard plans start from $79 a month on annual billing ($95 month to month).

What Mighty Networks is, in one paragraph

Mighty Networks is a paid software platform that lets one person or organization run a private online community under its own name, with discussion feeds, chat, events, livestreams, online courses and paid memberships in one place. Each community is called a Mighty Network. The person who runs it is the Host. Members reach it through a website on your own domain or through the Mighty Networks apps for iOS and Android. It carries no ads.

The company was founded by Gina Bianchini, Tim Herby and Thomas Aaron. Bianchini previously co-founded Ning, an earlier build-your-own social network service.

What Mighty Networks does: the main parts

The building blocks of a Mighty Network
PartWhat it does
SpacesSections inside the network. A Space can hold a feed, chat, events, a course or web pages. Every plan allows unlimited Spaces.
Feed and postsPosts, articles, polls and questions that members read and reply to.
Chat and messagingGroup chat inside a Space, with threads, plus private messages between members.
Events and livestreamsOnline or in-person events with RSVPs, built-in livestreaming and a Zoom integration.
CoursesOn-demand, cohort and live courses with quizzes, dripped lessons and automatic badges. A certificate file needs a Zapier workflow on Scale or a file you host.
Plans and paymentsSubscriptions, one-time payments, tiers, promo codes and free trials, processed by Stripe.
Member toolsProfiles, custom fields, tags, badges, points, streaks and leaderboards.
AI CohostAn assistant that drafts the first setup and suggests conversation starters.

Which parts you get depends on the plan. The breakdown by plan is on the Mighty Networks features page.

What Mighty Networks is used for

People use it for four main jobs, going by the examples on the vendor's own site.

  • Paid memberships. A host charges a monthly or annual fee for access to the network or to individual Spaces. Mighty says the average membership sold on the platform is $48 a month.
  • Courses and challenges. Time-limited programs where members work through lessons together.
  • Free communities for a cause or a customer base. Nonprofits, professional networks and brands that want members away from social media feeds.
  • Moving an existing group. A Facebook group, club or mailing list that wants its own home and its own member list.

That last job is the one this site focuses on. If it is yours, start with the comparison of Mighty Networks against the group you already run.

How a Mighty Network gets set up

  1. Start the 14-day free trial of the Growth Plan. No credit card is required.
  2. Answer the AI Cohost's question about who you want to bring together. It drafts a landing page, branding and a starter template.
  3. Add Spaces from templates and choose the features each one needs.
  4. Set privacy for the network and for each Space, for example invite-only.
  5. Connect Stripe if you plan to charge, then create a plan with a price.
  6. Invite members by link or email, and pick a paid plan before the trial ends.

The order of work for an existing group is different, because members and habits already exist. The community transition plan covers that.

What Mighty Networks costs

Mighty Networks has four self-serve plans, as read on 3 October 2026: Explore at $35 a month (listed in the help center, not on the main pricing cards), Launch at $95, Scale at $215 and Growth at $425. Paying annually brings Launch to $950 a year ($79 a month), Scale to $2,150 and Growth to $4,250. Mighty also takes a transaction fee on sales, from 5% on Explore down to 0.5% on Growth, and Stripe charges card processing on top. Your own branded app requires Mighty Pro, which is quoted individually. The full pricing breakdown has a worked total.

Who Mighty Networks suits and who should look elsewhere

It suits a host who wants discussion, events and courses together, expects members to use a phone app, and is willing to pay roughly $80 to $95 a month before fees. It also suits organizations that need to own the member list: from the Launch Plan up, hosts can export member names and email addresses.

It is the wrong tool in three situations. A group that only chats and has no budget is better left where it is or moved to a free tool. A business selling courses that also needs email marketing and sales funnels from the same vendor should look at Kajabi. Anyone handling patient information should note that Mighty's help center says HIPAA compliance is not offered.
