Is Mighty Networks legit? The short answer and the company behind it
Yes, Mighty Networks is a legitimate software company and not a scheme: it sells subscriptions to community software, publishes its prices and names its leadership. Its help center lists the founders as Gina Bianchini (CEO), Tim Herby (CTO) and Thomas Aaron (Chief Product Officer). Bianchini earlier co-founded Ning. The company's about page says hosts earned $500 million through the platform in 2025, which is the vendor's own figure and not independently checked here.
Legit does not mean right for you. Whether it is worth paying for is a separate question, covered below and in the Mighty Networks review.
Is Mighty Networks safe? Its security and privacy statements
Mighty Networks publishes a security overview in its help center and a trust center. The statements below are the vendor's own; we have not audited them.
| Topic | What Mighty Networks states |
|---|---|
| Audit | SOC 2 Type II compliant on every plan; the report is available under a signed NDA |
| Hosting | All data hosted on Amazon Web Services |
| Encryption | HTTPS with TLS 1.2 or higher in transit; content encrypted at rest; passwords stored with one-way hashing |
| Testing | Most recent independent penetration test completed in April 2025 |
| Sign-in | Optional multi-factor authentication on every plan; optional SSO from the Growth Plan; SAML 2.0 not supported |
| Privacy law | States compliance with GDPR and CCPA; the host is the data controller and Mighty the processor |
| Data sales | Says it does not sell member or host personal data |
| Payments | Card data is handled by Stripe or Apple, not stored by Mighty |
| Recovery | States it can recover within 24 hours from the loss of a data center |
A signed data processing agreement, the penetration test report and the annual security questionnaire are listed on the pricing page only for Mighty Pro.
Is Mighty Networks HIPAA compliant?
No. The help center's security article states that HIPAA compliance is not offered. It adds that Mighty does not store medical data except when members voluntarily share it in health-related networks. The practical reading: a peer support group where members choose to talk about their health can run there, but a clinic, therapist or health plan that needs a business associate agreement cannot rely on it. Those organizations should choose a vendor that will sign one in writing and keep patient information out of community posts.
Billing, refunds and cancellation terms
- Trial. 14 days on the Growth Plan with no credit card, so nothing is charged by default at the end.
- Contract. The help center says plans are month-to-month and can be changed or canceled at any time.
- Refunds. The help center, quoting the Terms of Use, says no refunds are given for unused time when you end a paid plan, or when Mighty ends it for a policy violation.
- Cancellation. Done from Admin under the billing plan page. Paid features stay until the billing cycle ends, then the network moves to a limited Free Plan.
- Add-ons. Engagement Boosts are not refundable and are canceled separately.
- Member refunds. Refunds to your own members are your decision and are issued through your Stripe account.
The no-refund rule matters most on annual billing, which costs $950 for Launch as read on 3 October 2026. Pay monthly until a pilot with real members has worked.
Your data and what happens if you leave
The help center says hosts keep ownership of content and member data. From the Launch Plan up you can download member names, email addresses, profile details and plan membership as an Excel file. Deleting a network is permanent and removes all content. Mighty can also deactivate a network on request, which hides it from members but preserves the content. Posts and course material do not come with a one-click export in the pages we read, so write your exit plan before you build.
Is Mighty Networks worth it?
It is worth it when you will use at least two of its three core parts, discussion, events and courses, and when members will use the phone apps. At $95 a month on Launch plus a 2% fee, a free community of 40 people that only chats will struggle to justify the cost; the case for not moving applies. We could not verify complaint patterns from a source we could cite, so none are repeated here. Check current reviews on an independent site yourself, and weigh them against the terms above.
