How to create a community app

Last reviewed 4 October 2026

Quick answerA community app comes three ways: a platform's shared app, your own branded app, or custom code. On Mighty Networks, members use the shared app from Launch; an app under your own name needs Mighty Pro, sold by quote.

How to create a community app: three routes

A community app for the members of your own group comes three ways: members install a platform's shared app, you publish a branded app under your own name through a platform, or developers write a custom app.

On Mighty Networks, members on Launch, Scale and Growth use the shared Mighty Networks app, free on iOS and Android, and an app-store listing under your own name comes only with Mighty Pro, at custom pricing. That listing is called a branded app.

The shared app suits a community whose members only need an icon on the phone. A branded app suits a community that must carry its own name and icon in the app stores. To build a community app from scratch you need developers.

Shared app, branded app or custom code: what each costs

Mighty Networks Launch is $95 a month, billed monthly, or $79 a month, billed annually ($950 a year), as read on 4 October 2026.

Mighty Pro is sold by quote, and does Mighty Networks have an app carries what is known about it. Heartbeat Scale publishes a price for a branded app.

Steps to create a community app on each route

  1. Decide on the name. If the app must carry your own name and icon, the route is a branded app. If not, the shared app is enough.
  2. Shared app: build the Network, then send members to it. Members install the free app and sign in by email, which sends them a link to every Network they belong to, or they search for the Network by name. A Network that only invited members can find does not show in the app's search, so those members open it in a mobile browser first.
  3. Branded app: ask for a quote. The way in is a short call with the Mighty Networks team, and apps are live in the app stores within 4 to 6 weeks.
  4. Set prices with Apple in mind. Purchases in the iOS app go through Apple, which the help center says charges 15%. You can set a higher price for iOS.
  5. Custom code: only with developers. Choose it when you have developers and a need no platform meets.

When the shared app is not enough, and who should pick Heartbeat

A branded app is Mighty Pro only and has no plan price: the pricing page says custom pricing, with a Get a Quote button. In the shared app, course and video content needs an internet connection, as offline access is not supported.

Pick Heartbeat Scale if you need a published price for an app under your own name before you talk to sales; it is in the table above. Mighty Networks vs Heartbeat compares member caps and fees, and Mighty Networks alternatives covers the rest.

Only the shared app can be tried: the 14-day free trial of Mighty Networks needs no credit card and does not include a branded app. Mighty Networks pricing has the Launch, Scale and Growth prices.
