How to monetize a Facebook group: what Facebook offers and what it does not
Facebook's help pages describe one way to charge for a group: Facebook Subscriptions, which can include an exclusive group for paying subscribers and need a Page with 5,000 or more followers. They describe no setting that puts a price on an ordinary group.
An admin without such a Page charges through a platform instead. Mighty Networks sells subscriptions and one-time payments as member plans from the Launch Plan, $95 a month, billed monthly, as read on 4 October 2026, with a 2% transaction fee, and Mighty Networks vs Facebook Groups sets it against a group.
On Mighty Networks one community is a Network, the person who creates and pays for it is the Host, and a member plan is the offer a Host sets up for people to join. Selling your own product or service to members needs no new tool, so this page covers charging for access.

On Facebook itself the documented route is Subscriptions, which sit on a Page and can offer an exclusive group that only subscribers join and post in. Facebook lists five requirements and checks them.
- A Page with 5,000 or more followers; Facebook also lists a profile in pro mode, which its set-up page calls not fully available.
- Compliance with Facebook's Partner Monetization Policies.
- Agreement to the Fan Subscription Creator Terms.
- Age 18 or older, for every admin of a Page.
- Residence in a country where Subscriptions is available.
Set-up runs from Monetization in Meta Business Suite and ends with a submission for review; Subscriptions go live only after Facebook sends a notification, and an admin who does not yet qualify cannot apply.
Meta takes no fee from Subscriptions through the end of 2026; Facebook says fees may apply after and gives no percentage. On the web the creator receives 100% of the price after taxes and fees, and 70% through Apple or Google. A Page can download subscriber emails as a .csv file, but earlier subscribers must opt in first.
How to charge for a Facebook group without a 5,000-follower Page
Charging on a platform takes five steps, shown here with Mighty Networks:
- Name what paying members get that the free group does not.
- Create a member plan: press Create Plan in Admin, choose the whole Network, one Space (a section with its own members and settings) or a bundle of Spaces, then a one-time payment for lifetime access or a recurring subscription. Charging starts on the Launch Plan.
- Connect Stripe. The plan's Payments option charges through Stripe, and web payments go straight to your Stripe account; PayPal and other processors are not supported.
- Post the plan's share link in the Facebook group and pin it: an admin or moderator chooses Pin to Featured from the post's options, and in a private group only members see pinned items.
- Keep the free group open as the front door. Mighty Networks cannot transfer a membership or create accounts for people, so each person joins through the link.
How to move a Facebook group covers a full move, and Mighty Networks membership covers member plans.
What each route keeps from a payment
| Route | Price to you | Cut of each payment | What it requires |
|---|---|---|---|
| Facebook Subscriptions, with an exclusive group | No charge to use Facebook, per Facebook | No Meta fee through 2026; 100% of the web price after taxes and fees, 70% through Apple or Google | A Page with 5,000 or more followers and four more listed requirements |
| Mighty Networks Launch, member plans | $95 a month, billed monthly; $79 a month, billed annually ($950 a year) | 2% transaction fee; Stripe card processing on top | A Stripe account; no other processor |
| Patreon | Free to start | 10% of income; card processing 2.9% plus $0.30 on standard US payments, on top | No monthly subscription |
| Skool Hobby | $9 a month, billed monthly | 10% plus 30 cents a transaction, card processing included | Members pay in US dollars |
Take 60 members paying $10 a month, $600 in all. Mighty Networks Launch costs $95 plus a 2% transaction fee of $12, which is $107, before Stripe card processing. Patreon takes 10%, $60, before card processing. Skool Hobby costs $9 plus 10%, $60, plus 30 cents on each of 60 payments, $18, which is $87 with card processing included.
At 100 members paying $30 a month, $3,000 in all, Mighty Networks Launch costs $95 plus 2%, $60, which is $155 before card processing. Patreon takes 10%, $300, before card processing. Skool Hobby costs $9 plus $300 plus $30, which is $339 with card processing included. At $600 a month Patreon and Skool Hobby take less than Mighty Networks; at $3,000 a month Mighty Networks takes less.
Who should keep the group free, and who should pick Patreon
Keep the group free if no one in it will pay for access. Pick Patreon, which is free to start, for small or uneven income and no monthly price; Mighty Networks alternatives sets it beside Skool and the rest. A Page that meets Facebook's five requirements can use Subscriptions and stay.
The limit on Mighty Networks: it has no free plan on its pricing page, Launch is a flat $95 a month, billed monthly, before the 2% transaction fee, and each member has to join. The member plan can be built and priced during the 14-day free trial of Mighty Networks, no credit card required; a sale made in the trial carries a 5% transaction fee.
