Separate usefulness from age
Older material may be essential, while a recent announcement may already be obsolete. Classify resources by current purpose, sensitivity, rights and maintenance burden. Ask which member task would fail if the item disappeared. This is more useful than a universal rule to migrate the most recent year or retain everything indefinitely.
Choose the access model
An archive can be searchable, read-only, restricted or retained only for an appropriate administrative purpose. Those are different outcomes. Decide which one is intended before asking a provider to move data. A copied archive can expose material to a new audience if space permissions are not preserved. Verify the applicable boundaries instead of assuming the old labels will carry across.
Make retirement visible
When a public reference is intentionally retired, replace important navigation with an explanation or current alternative where appropriate. Avoid leaving members at unexplained broken links. Keep a record of the retirement decision and any required retained copy in the proper restricted system. This guide does not prescribe a legal retention period or determine anyone’s rights in contributed material.
A fictional archive choice
A hobby group keeps its current safety instructions readily available, retains selected project discussions for members and removes obsolete event notices from the main directory. A contributed-photo collection remains under review until permissions are understood. The group records these as three different decisions. A successful file copy would not resolve the photo question, and a clean-looking directory would not prove that the retained references are still reachable.
Before you close this task
Ask an ordinary member to locate one retained reference using the new directory. This checks discoverability, not the completeness of the entire archive. Record which item and audience were tested so a later reviewer can distinguish a real observation from an assumption that all archived material remains usable.
Where the safety evidence stops
This guide draws on Mighty Networks migration FAQ, Mighty privacy policy, Mighty terms of use. Merchant-controlled records describe the provider’s own capabilities, terms or standards; they do not independently validate those claims. These records do not establish independent confirmation of the product claims.
Verify any current price, plan limit, label direction, compatibility rule, or commercial term that would materially change the decision. The dated source ledger shows the underlying records so this conclusion can be checked and updated.
